At the Salem Town Council Meeting on Monday, April 21, 2025, the Town welcomed four new firefighters to the Salem Fire Department and celebrated the promotion of one of our own from firefighter to firefighter/paramedic.

Fire Chief Craig Lemire gave an introduction and a brief biography of each of our newest firefighters, Alex Taylor, Brett Connal, Peter Beeley, Joseph Philbrick, and to our newly promoted firefighter/paramedic, Alex Guzman. All of these excellent firefighters worked hard to reach their positions, and the Town is very excited to have them in the Department!

Alex Taylor has just over 2 years’ experience working as a firefighter/EMT for Milford, NH Fire Department. Alex is a Pro-Board Firefighter Level 3 and recently completed his Advanced EMT certificate.

Brett Connal is a certified NH Pro-Board Firefighter Level 2 after recently completing the NH Fire Academy Recruit School. Brett is a certified EMT-Basic and has also received training through the Candia Fire Department where he is an on-call member.

Pete Beeley is a resident of Salem and a past SHS Intern. After high school, Pete received an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Southern Maine Community College. Pete is an Advanced EMT and has worked for both Hampstead and Danville Fire Departments as a Per-Diem Firefighter/EMT. Pete is a third generation Salem Firefighter. On duty and in attendance on that night was his father, Peter Beeley.

Joseph Philbrick joined the Candia Fire Department in 2023 as an on-call firefighter. In 2024, he graduated from the NH Fire Academy Recruit School becoming Pro-Board Firefighter Level 2 certified. Joseph recently completed EMT-B school.

Alex Guzman recently completed the rigorous training of Paramedic School and has earned both his National Registry EMT-Paramedic certification and New Hampshire State Paramedic license. Achieving the title of paramedic is a remarkable accomplishment—one that demands intensive education, mental resilience, and the ability to perform under extreme pressure. We are incredibly proud of Alex for his dedication to this profession and his commitment to serving others.

After introductions, each of the new firefighters took their oath of office and were congratulated with a room full of applause. We are proud to promote one of our own and to welcome all four of our new firefighters to the Salem Fire Department!
