The Town of Salem has reached a major milestone in the Route 111 and Ermer Road Traffic Safety Improvement Project.

On January 21, 2026, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Wetlands Bureau approved the Town’s Standard Dredge and Fill Wetlands Permit for the project. This approval authorizes the necessary wetland impacts associated with construction of a single-lane roundabout, along with related roadway and lighting improvements, at the Route 111 and Ermer Road intersection.

The project is being advanced by the Town in coordination with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Approval of the wetlands permit represents the final major environmental permitting step required to keep the project on schedule. With this permit now in place, Town staff and the consultant team can proceed with final design activities and coordination needed to move the project toward the bidding phase.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation has accelerated the project timeline, with the goal of advertising the project for construction in early spring and advancing construction activities during the Summer 2026 construction season.

Town staff will continue to work closely with NHDOT and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with all permit conditions. Updates will be shared with the Town Council and the public as the project progresses into its next phase.
