On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2026, the 36th Annual John P. Ganley Memorial Luncheon was held at the Salem Boys & Girls Club.

Guests arrived dressed in green and gathered to celebrate this year’s Ganley Award recipient, Jim Desjardins, owner of Daisy Cleaners. The annual event brought together members of the community, local officials, and supporters to recognize a tradition centered on service and generosity.

Speaking about the spirit of the award, Bill Ganley said the Ganley Award is about giving back to the community and putting others before oneself over time.

The afternoon featured entertainment from Danny Clark, also known as the Singing Trooper, who performed classic Irish favorites ranging from the emotional “Danny Boy” to the lively “MacNamara’s Band.”

The Salem Police Honor Guard also took part in the event, ushering in the New Hampshire Police Association Pipes & Drums. Guests rose to their feet as the group marched into the sound of bagpipes and drums.

Lunch included corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, fresh rolls, butter, and traditional accompaniments, catered by Tuscan Brands Artisan Catering

Master of Ceremonies Michael Collins welcomed attendees and introduced the many elected officials and state leaders in attendance. His remarks helped guide the program while adding warmth and humor throughout the afternoon.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Ganley Award. John Ganley shared comments from those who nominated Desjardins for the honor.

Salem Family Resources noted that Desjardins supports a culture of care and shared responsibility. During the SNAP cutoff, he helped restock and sustain the food pantry and provided clothing and shoes to families in need.

The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce also praised Desjardins for his quiet leadership and compassion, citing his many years of hands on, behind the scenes support for the community.

Desjardins accepted the award with a heartfelt speech centered on the values that guide his life and service.

He spoke about the importance of integrity, saying that when you commit to doing something, you should follow through, because that builds trust.

He also emphasized respect, encouraging people to listen when others speak, value their time, and treat everyone with dignity. Together, he said, integrity earns trust and respect builds relationships and that foundation leads to meaningful community service.
