Salem Senior Services has a full calendar of programs, activities, and events planned for May and June, offering opportunities for seniors to stay active, informed, creative, and connected.
Recent activities included Derby Day, a Senior Self-Defense Class held by the Salem Police Department, and a Woodworking Class. One featured woodworking piece was completed by Art B., who has been carving for 19 years and teaching for 12 years. His carved cardinal took 56 hours to complete.

On Tuesday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m., seniors are invited to join a refreshing one-day hike through the Salem Town Forest. This guided walk will highlight local wildlife, forest features, and the history of the land, while giving participants a chance to enjoy the quiet beauty of the woods in May. This program is designed for active seniors who are comfortable walking on uneven terrain. Please note that the trail is not ADA-accessible and includes natural surfaces, slight inclines, and potential icy or muddy areas depending on weather.

Pizza and Movie Day will take place on Wednesday, May 13 at 12:45 p.m., at the Ingram Senior Center. The featured movie will be Freakier Friday. The movie and popcorn are free, and participants may order a pizza lunch for $5.

On Wednesday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ingram Senior Center, Elder Affairs Officer Shalyn Spencer will lead a Scam Presentation on the latest fraud and scam trends, including emerging phone, text, email, and online scams targeting individuals and businesses. The presentation will explain how these schemes work, warning signs to watch for, and practical steps residents can take to protect themselves and their finances.

A free drive-thru Shred-A-Thon sponsored by AARP will be held on Thursday, May 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Ingram Senior Center. Participants may bring documents for shredding, including bank statements, cancelled checks, credit card junk mail, and receipts with identifying information. There is a limit of three bags or boxes per person in each vehicle. Magazines and newspapers will not be accepted. Documents should be free of large binder clips and plastic, but staples and paper clips do not need to be removed. All papers will be shredded on-site in the mobile shredding truck.

On Wednesday, May 27, at the Ingram Senior Center enjoy lunch from Meals on Wheels followed by a Meet and Greet with Leslie Kent, Human Services Director. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Lunch options include a Deli Turkey Pita Sandwich or a Tuna Salad Sandwich. Registration for lunch is required by May 21.

The Showstoppers will hold their Spring Dance Show on Thursday, May 28 at 12:00 p.m. Participants may also enjoy lunch before the show with Meals on Wheels. Lunch options include a Cheese Omelet or Taco Salad.

The Salem Town-Wide Yard Sale will take place rain or shine on Saturday, June 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Participants may set their own sale hours, which will be noted on the map and address listing. Registration is open through Thursday, May 28. The cost to participate is $10 for residents and $15 for home-based businesses, such as Avon or Tupperware. The registration fee includes yard signs, maps, address listing information, and a yard sale permit. Maps and listing information will be available on Thursday, June 11. To register, participants may use the online registration link or return the registration form with payment to the Community Services Department at the Ingram Senior Center, 1 Sally Sweets Way. No refunds will be issued after May 28.

An Encore trip is scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026. The bus will depart from the ICENTER at 9:00 a.m. and return to the ICENTER at 4:00 p.m. The cost is $37 for bus transportation, and participants will receive $20 in free play.
