Salem, NH Project Engineer Todd Welch recently provided an overview of the history and current status of the Bridge Street Bridge Reconstruction Project, a major infrastructure investment underway in Town.
The Bridge Street Bridge is part of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) Bridge Program, which is funded through a partnership between the State and the Town of Salem. Under this program, 80 percent of the project costs are funded by the State of New Hampshire, with the remaining 20 percent funded by the Town.
Construction activities currently underway include site clearing, utility relocations, and water diversion work to prepare the area for full bridge replacement. These early phases are critical to ensuring the long-term safety and durability of the new structure.

During the update, Welch also compared the Bridge Street project to the Lawrence Road Bridge project, noting similarities in scope, construction approach, and overall timeline. These comparisons help illustrate what residents can expect as work progresses and how the finished bridge will function once complete.
The Bridge Street Bridge Reconstruction Project is anticipated to be completed in October 2026.
Residents interested in staying informed are encouraged to visit the Town website regularly for updates, construction notices, and project milestones.
At the conclusion of the video, viewers can also watch time-lapse footage of a nearly identical bridge constructed in another New Hampshire community. This footage is provided as a visual reference to help residents better understand the construction process and the final appearance of the Bridge Street Bridge once completed.
