The Town of Salem Announces Chief Craig Lemire’s Confirmation as New Fire Chief

Salem, NH – January 10, 2024 – The Salem Fire Department is thrilled to confirm Battalion Chief Craig Lemire as the newly appointed Fire Chief. This announcement follows the Town Council’s official confirmation on Monday, January 8, 2024.

Chief Lemire, with an extensive 18-year tenure in the Salem Fire Department, has achieved notable milestones in his career, including appointments to Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief.

A graduate of Stonehill College, Chief Lemire holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Major in Management and a Minor in Computer Information Systems. His diverse certifications encompass Advanced EMT, Fire Officer 2, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, and Incident Safety Officer.

In addition to his academic achievements, Chief Lemire has actively participated in leadership conferences and served as an Adjunct Instructor at Middlesex Community College, specializing in Fire Science Hydraulics and Fire Protection Systems & Equipment.

Recognized for his contributions, Chief Lemire has earned the Center for Public Safety Excellence Fire Officer Designation and the NH Chief Fire Officer Designation in 2023.

Chief Lemire’s impact within the department extends to innovative software development, leading the Employee Recognition Program, overseeing the Covid-19 Incident Action Plan, and contributing to several major station improvements.

Coming from a firefighting legacy, Chief Lemire’s family includes his grandfather, retired Lieutenant Robert Lemire from Lowell Fire, and his father, retired Deputy Chief Phil Lemire from Lowell Fire.

Married to Kathryn with three children, Jack, Chase, and Tess, Chief Lemire officially assumed the role of Fire Chief on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
