Temporary Relocation of Salem PD and Update on Police Station – March 2025 Update

The Town of Salem, NH is pleased to provide an update on the progress of the new police station project, which was overwhelmingly approved by voters in March 2024. Significant work has already been completed, and we are preparing for the next phase of this important initiative.

As part of the construction process, the existing police station will be replaced, necessitating a temporary relocation. The Municipal Services Building has undergone a complete overhaul to accommodate our department during this transition. We anticipate moving into this facility on or around April 1. Our temporary address will be 21A Cross St. To ensure accessibility, digital signs have been placed on Veterans Memorial Parkway, and additional signage will be installed along the construction fencing to direct those seeking assistance.

The Municipal Services Building will provide approximately 6,000 square feet of office space, including a dispatch center, locker rooms, and a temporary detention facility with two holding cells. Additionally, a 3,000-square-foot modular unit will house our Administration and Special Services Division. Throughout this transition, we remain committed to delivering the same high-quality, professional law enforcement services to our community. Once we relocate to the new facility, this renovated space will become available for town use.

The permanent police station project is progressing on schedule. The project is currently out to bid for subcontractors, and our partners—The Galante Architecture Studio, Trident, and Harvey Construction—have been diligently working to finalize the design and prepare for construction. Initial site work, including tree removal, will take place between April 1-15. Following our departure, necessary hazardous material abatement, including lead and asbestos removal, will be completed before demolition begins in late April. Full site work will commence soon after, with the new foundation expected to be in place by June. Construction will then proceed, with our estimated return to the new facility in Fall 2026. I am pleased to report that we remain on time and within budget.

In the coming weeks and months, we encourage you to visit the New Police Station Project page on our website, where we will provide weekly updates on the project’s progress. This is the same platform used to share information leading up to last year’s vote.

In closing, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your support. This project would not have been possible without you, and we look forward to delivering a modern, state-of-the-art facility that will serve our community for years to come. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
