Town of Salem, NH

The Communications Committee wanted to provide an update to the Salem community as to what they have accomplished since their inception last year.

In Spring 2023, the Town of Salem established an inaugural Communications Committee with the mission of improving Town communication efforts. The Communications Committee is charged with evaluating the effectiveness of current communications and making recommendations for improvement. The Committee is also charged with developing a comprehensive communication strategy that leverages various channels to keep citizens informed, engaged, and empowered to shape their community.

The Communications Committee, which serves in an advisory capacity to the Town Council, has already made an impact through assistance with several projects. The Committee has helped create flyers to promote community events and developed materials intended to educate residents about the dire conditions of Salem’s current police station. These efforts are to help promote information regarding the construction of a new Police Station.

“The Town and the School District do a good job of putting information out to the public,” stated Communications Committee Acting Chair Bob Gibbs. Gibbs says, “this Committee is working to not only put out more information in a timely manner but is also finding ways to reach out to more people. We are never going to reach everyone, but we are going to try.”

The Town and the Communications Committee are committed to ensuring residents and stakeholders are informed about Town events, news, and other happenings. The Committee will engage with the community and create opportunities to obtain input and feedback on Town communication issues.

“How often I have heard neighbors say that they have no idea what’s happening in Salem. when in reality it comes down to not knowing where to look,” said Erin Murphy, the Communications Committee Secretary. “Our newly developed Town Access Flyer is just one example of how we are ensuring our residents are informed on where to find that information. From podcasts to community television broadcasts (SCTV) and the new Town website, the information is plentiful, and we simply need to lead them to it. We encourage our residents to check these channels regularly and invite them to connect with us, the Committee, by providing feedback and ideas,” she continued.

The Committee has built and continues to foster relationships with media outlets, support the Town with communication outreach and serve as public relations ambassadors throughout Salem. The Committee meets on the first Thursday of each month in the Knightly Meeting Room at Town Hall (33 Geremonty Drive Salem, NH 03079) at 5:00 PM. You are invited to attend in person or watch the meeting on the Salem Government Channel (SGC22) or at SalemNH.tv.

The Committee developed the below ‘Town Access Flyer’ for the community to share with their family, neighbors, and friends to stay up to date on all thing Salem!

The Committee will also continue to be an asset to the Town as it works with the Master Plan Steering Committee to promote this process throughout 2024. There is currently an open survey regarding the Master Plan that you can fill out by visiting this link or clicking the graphic below: https://pol.is/24rmxr2e7k
