Town of Salem, NH

At this time of feasting and holiday celebrations, it’s good to remember those who need our help, not just now but throughout the year. The Salem Area Women’s Club-GFWC (SAWC) has been feeding bodies and minds all year long with their ongoing contributions and service projects in the towns of Salem, Pelham, Derry, and Hampstead. Whether tending local gardens, providing snack baskets for local first responders and poll workers, donating funds and volunteer hours to local organizations, or giving to our towns’ libraries, SAWC members benefit our communities in a myriad of ways, such as:

Feeding the Hungry

SAWC wants to help ensure no Granite Stater goes hungry. They show this commitment with their ongoing support for End 68 Hours of Hunger, local food pantries, Isaiah 58 NH, Salem Family Resources, and veterans’ organizations. SAWC members also gather monthly to make over 40 bagged lunches to be distributed to local homeless groups.

SAWC Supports SARL’s 5K Race Fundraiser

SAWC Members showed their love of animals by donating as well as actively participating in Salem Animal Rescue League (SARL)’s first annual Howl’ween fundraiser on Oct. 31st. SAWC member Loren Faber won a first-place trophy for her age group!

SAWC Sponsors Local Author Event

On Oct. 21st, the SAWC fostered the love of reading by sponsoring another local author event at the Salem Boys’ and Girls’ Club, providing free books and snacks. Local author John Wolforth bewitched an appreciative audience by reading his latest children’s book The Witch’s Revenge.

30+ Boys and girls eagerly listen to John Wolforth reading The Witch’s Revenge.

Welcome New Members!

SAWC is pleased to welcome its newest members: Lucia Williams, Wendy Davis, Claire Donohue, Patricia O’Neill, Linda Piergeorge, Fran Tilley, Hilary Hackbart, Donna Morris, Melanie Kempton, and Karen Bonnin. The Club continues to grow as women from throughout the area discover opportunities for friendship, leadership, volunteer service, and community engagement.

Since 1926, the Salem Area Women’s Club GFWC (SAWC) has provided fellowship and philanthropic opportunities for local women. Now standing 126 members strong and growing, our service and social club members work together to enrich our communities. Last year, SAWC gave more than $50,000 to nearly 90 organizations and causes at the local, state, national, and international levels. Want to find out more, or join us?
