The Town of Salem will hold its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The collection will take place in the DPW Garage parking lot at 21 Cross Street.
Many products commonly found in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and yards contain chemicals that may be corrosive, explosive, reactive, flammable, or toxic. This annual collection gives Salem residents an opportunity to safely remove these potential environmental hazards from their homes.
Accepted materials include ammonia, antifreeze, motor oil, batteries, bleach, drain cleaners, floor cleaners, herbicides, pesticides, pool chemicals, oil based paint, paint thinner, solvents, sealants, transmission fluid, oven cleaners, metal polish, muriatic acid, photo chemicals, rodent killers, rust preventatives, wood strippers and preservatives, and certain arts and crafts supplies.
Latex paint, radioactive waste, smoke detectors, explosives, pressurized fire extinguishers, and unknown gas cylinders will not be accepted.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous materials while helping protect the community and the environment.
