For Salem’s more adventurous seniors, the Community Services Department threw in a couple extra trips in August.
On August 22nd, we had seven seniors ranging in age from 61 to 85 take a whitewater rafting ride on the class 1 to class 3 Deerfield River Fife Brook Section in Charlemont, MA. After their beautiful seven mile rafting trip they enjoyed a hearty BBQ meal. They made new friends and shared lasting memories.
For the even more daring, on August 29th, we had five seniors exploring the great outdoors by ziplining at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, NH. Our thrill seeking daredevils were 67 to 78 years of age proving life can still be fun after 60! They soared above the trees from peak to peak, and peak to base, traveling over a combined 1.6 miles on one of the longest zipline tours in the continental U.S.
They started out on a couple of easy training runs before taking the Panorama lift to the summit where they had the chance to take in the spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee before heading down the ziplines. After their voyage, they shared stories of the adventure and enjoyed the camaraderie.
