The Salem Police Department is now accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Police Academy, beginning Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The six week program will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This will be the first Citizens Police Academy class held inside Salem’s new Police Department facility.
Participants will receive an inside look at the work members of the Salem Police Department perform each day. Topics will include patrol operations, SWAT, animal control, elder affairs, and many other areas of the department. The academy is designed to help residents better understand what the department does, why officers make certain decisions, and the challenges local law enforcement faces each day.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must either reside in Salem or be a member of the Salem Exchange Club. Applicants must not have a known criminal history. A local records and criminal history check will be completed for all individuals selected for admission.
There is no cost to participate thanks to a generous donation from the Salem Exchange Club.
Applications will be accepted through Friday, October 9, 2026. Interested residents should complete the Citizens Police Academy application and email it to Officer Brian Lawrence at blawrence@salemnh.gov. Completed applications may also be dropped off at the dispatch desk at the Salem Police Department.
Residents are encouraged to apply soon and take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the Salem Police Department and the people who serve the community.
