In 2026, the Salem Area Women’s Club (SAWC), a local chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, marks 100 years of service to the Salem community.
Founded in 1926, the Salem Area Women’s Club GFWC-NH (SAWC) has supported the community through philanthropy and outreach programs for nearly a century. With more than 125 members, the organization donated over $45,000 to nearly 90 organizations last year, supporting causes at the local, state, national, and international levels.
SAWC is affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), an international women’s organization dedicated to volunteer service. At the state level, GFWC-NH connects General, Junior, and Juniorette Clubs across New Hampshire, strengthening collaboration and community impact.
Throughout its centennial year, SAWC is highlighting the work of its members and the organizations it supports. Through its Health and Wellness Committee, the club partners with more than 20 organizations focused on improving quality of life in the greater Salem area, including Greater Salem Caregivers, which assists seniors with transportation, companionship, and errands.
The club also supports local veterans through outreach initiatives and contributes to youth programs, including scholarships that help local girls attend Girl Scout camp.
To commemorate its 100th anniversary, SAWC will host a public celebration in March bringing together members, community leaders, and past presidents to recognize the club’s long-standing commitment to service. Residents interested in learning more about the organization or its anniversary events are encouraged to visit the Salem Area Women’s Club website.
