The Town of Salem is working in partnership with the Arlington Pond Protective Association (APPA) and the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES, is working to develop a watershed-based plan to address water quality concerns and cyanobacteria blooms in Arlington Mill Reservoir.
Community members are invited to attend a public meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Knightly Meeting Room at Salem Town Hal, 33 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079. Attendees will have an opportunity to share their observations and provide input as the plan is developed.
The Arlington Mill Reservoir includes land in Salem, Derry, Hampstead, Windham, Atkinson, Chester, and Sandown, New Hampshire. Pollutants from pet waste, stormwater runoff, septic systems, sediment from these towns have the potential to drain to the lake and effect water quality. Some of these pollutants can cause dangerous cyanobacteria blooms.
The watershed based plan will include:
- Identification of pollutant sources
- Management measures needed to reduce pollutants
- A plan for implementation
- Opportunities for public engagement and participation
