NH Secretary of State Reminds Voters of Deadline to Change Party Affiliation Before September Primary

Editor’s Note: Please check the publishing date of this article. For the most up to date election information, please visit the Town of Salem website.

The Town would like to remind Salem residents of the upcoming Tuesday, June 4, 2024 deadline to change their party affiliation before the September State primary.

You can visit the Town Clerk’s office at the bottom floor of Town Hall (33 Geremonty Drive) to change your party affiliation on or prior to the June 4 deadline. After June 4, voters will not be able to change their party affiliation until after the State Primary.

Voters who are registered Republicans after the deadline will only be able to vote in the Republican State Primary. Voters who are registered Democrats after the deadline will only be able to vote in the Democratic State Primary.

On election day, undeclared voters may vote in either the Democratic or Republican State Primary Election. Once an undeclared voter chooses their ballot, they become a registered member of that party. After casting their ballot, they can switch back to undeclared before leaving the polling place.

The State Primary Election will take place on September 10, 2024.

Anyone who is unsure of their party affiliation can check their voter registration information on the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Lookup page at app.sos.nh.gov. Voters can also use this website to find their local town/city clerk’s information, polling location, sample ballots when they are available, and more. If an undeclared voter participated in a recent primary election, they should check their party affiliation to make sure it is correct.

If you would like more information, please read NH Secretary of State David Scanlan’s May 2nd press release.
