New All Way STOP Coming to Hampstead Road and Shannon Road Intersection – August 2026

Town of Salem, NH

A new traffic pattern is coming to the intersection of Hampstead Road, Shannon Road, Town Farm Road, and Liberty Street as part of an important safety improvement.

The Salem Police Chief has authorized the Municipal Services Department to convert the intersection into an all way STOP. Installation is scheduled for the week of August 17.

During installation, crews will add new STOP signs, advance warning signs, and pavement markings. Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution while work is underway and as drivers become familiar with the new traffic controls.

The change follows a comprehensive traffic safety evaluation that included traffic volume studies, crash history, and field observations. The evaluation found that additional stop controls will help reduce the severity of crashes and improve safety for everyone traveling through the intersection.

What Motorists Should Expect

  • New STOP signs will be installed on Hampstead Road and Shannon Road at the intersection with Town Farm Road and Liberty Street, creating an all way STOP.
  • Drivers traveling in every direction must be prepared to stop.
  • Some delays may occur during peak travel times, but the anticipated safety benefits are expected to outweigh the additional delay.

Please slow down, watch for the new signs and pavement markings, and help keep Salem’s roads safe as this traffic improvement is implemented.

Questions or comments may be directed to Municipal Services at 603 890 2150 or lperry@salemnh.gov.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
