The Town of Salem continues to work with MeVa Transit on the implementation of a new regional bus route that will serve Salem and provide additional public transportation options for residents, workers, and visitors.
MeVa Transit has received grant funding through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation as part of a broader $10 million regional transit investment by the Healey-Driscoll Administration. This funding supports expanded transit services across Massachusetts and into New England, including cross-state connections that will benefit Salem riders.
Route Planning Underway
MeVa’s operations team has conducted preliminary route timing and site reviews in Salem and plans to complete a full test run with a bus later this month. Proposed stops currently under evaluation include major commercial and employment areas such as Tuscan Village, Target, and other key destinations. Final stop locations will be determined in coordination with property owners and partner agencies.
Anticipated Service Launch
The new MEVA bus service is anticipated to launch with MeVa’s spring schedule on Sunday, April 5, 2026, with service proposed seven days per week. This expanded transit option is intended to improve regional connectivity and access to employment, shopping, and services for Salem residents.
Town staff will continue to coordinate with MeVa Transit and the Cooperative Alliance for Regional Transportation (CART) Advisory Board as route details and service specifics are finalized. An additional informational update will be provided to the Town Council later this winter once plans are confirmed.
Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates as the project moves closer to implementation.
