In an effort to enhance employee appreciation, the Town of Salem has launched an Employee of the Month Recognition Program. The Town is thrilled to announce that GIS Manager John Vogl has been named our July 2025 Employee of the Month!

For more than seven years, John has been a go-to resource for just about every department in Town—including Engineering, Public Works, Utilities, Inspectional Services, Police, Planning, Assessing, and the Town Manager’s Office. His expertise in GIS and mapping, along with his sharp eye for detail and commitment to quality, has made him an indispensable part of our team.

Whether he’s building custom mapping tools, managing spatial data, or troubleshooting technical issues, John consistently brings a thoughtful, solutions-driven approach to his work. He’s able to handle a wide range of complex projects with ease—always delivering results that help the organization move forward.

John’s impact isn’t limited to internal operations. He also supports community efforts like the Friends of the Salem Bike-Ped Corridor, helps Public Works optimize snowplow routes, and works with the Cemeteries Division to maintain accurate records. In every case, he brings the same dedication and collaborative spirit.

What really sets John apart is his team-first attitude. He’s always willing to help, share his knowledge, and take on new challenges. His positive outlook and strong communication skills have a ripple effect throughout the organization—boosting morale and making us all better at what we do. And on top of all that, John brings a great sense of humor and a down-to-earth presence that makes even the busiest days a little brighter. He strikes a rare balance between technical skill, public service, and good old-fashioned collegiality.

Please join us in congratulating John on this well-earned recognition. He truly represents the best of what we aim for as a Town—excellence in service, innovative thinking, and a real commitment to our community.
