As the September 8, 2026, State Primary approaches, Town Moderator Bernard W. Campbell would like to share several important election reminders with Salem voters, candidates, campaign representatives, and poll standers.

Hello Voters of Salem:
As the State Primary is fast approaching, the Town would like to share some important reminders about the election to all citizens, but especially those who will campaigning in Salem during the primary.
Absentee Ballots
Election Day is Tuesday, September 8. Monday, September 7 is Labor Day, which means there will be no mail moving at all on Monday. We are encouraging all absentee voters to make sure their ballot is returned as promptly as possible to avoid the possibility of it arriving late due to the holiday.
Polling Locations and Electioneering
Just a reminder that Salem now has four polling locations, North Salem, Woodbury, Fisk and Barron. The Senior Center and Soule School are no longer utilized as polling locations. No free-standing signs of any kind may be placed on the grounds of these locations. Likewise, parking at these locations is limited to voters, and a 30-minute parking limit will be in place. Voters should confirm their assigned polling location before Election Day.
Those arriving for electioneering or poll standing are free to park off site. Poll standing areas are as follows:
- North Salem: to the left of the pavement area leading back toward the voter’s entrance. No poll standing is allowed along the building,
- Woodbury: On the grass area to the right of the walkway to the voter entrance, in front of the gymnasium, under the large “Vote Here” banner which will be in place on Election Day. Voters will not be using the school main entrance, so please do not obstruct students going in and out of the building.
- Fisk: To the left and right of the main stairs going up to the school entrance.
- Barron: To the left of the paved area heading up toward the gym entrance where voting takes place.
Lastly, please be aware that school will be in session for the Primary in September, so please be patient with traffic flow in and around the polling locations during peak school hours. Students will not be in school during the November election, though staff will be present.
