A Small Winter Effort That Makes a Big Difference – February 2026

Town of Salem, NH

The Town of Salem has nearly 900 fire hydrants located throughout the community. During the winter months, snow and ice can sometimes make these hydrants difficult to access.

If there is a fire hydrant near your home, clearing snow and ice around it can be very helpful in an emergency. Allowing a few feet of open space around the hydrant and a clear path to the street can help firefighters access water more quickly if a fire occurs.

While it is not required, taking a few moments to clear a nearby hydrant is a simple way residents can support emergency response efforts. This small act can make a meaningful difference during a fire and may help protect a home or even save a life.

The Salem Fire Department appreciates the community’s continued support in keeping Salem safe.
