The Town of Salem wishes everyone a safe and happy Halloween!
Trick or Treating in Salem will be held on Thursday, October 31st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please drive carefully and watch for children.
A week ago, the Community Services Department carried out their fourth annual Trunk or Treat event where over a thousand people participated! The event was held on October 24th at the Senior Center. Kids of all ages walked through the spooky woods to get to the Ingram Senior Center where there were dozens of decorated trunks, businesses, organizations, and Town departments handing out candy and entertaining the visitors. The event grows in popularity each year and aims to provide a safe, family friendly way to experience the fun of Halloween.
The Trunk-or-Treat featured a costume parade for 3 brackets: ages 4 and under, 5-7 years old, and 8 to 10 years old. Winners from each group got a gift card. The Salem Showstoppers (Recreation Dancers) added to the fun with performances throughout the evening, with many kids dancing along. Jimmy Koczat, DJ Extraordinaire, provided the music and got the crowd in a dancing mood. You can watch the video by clicking below:
For the seniors, the Senior Center’s own Halloween Party took place at Lenzi’s Catering and Function Facility in Dracut, MA. Salem’s Senior Center Coordinator, Wendy Peters, organized the party and embraced the spooky season. Everybody dressed in costumes and DJ Chris Brunelle’s selection of music had the crowd dancing and singing along. Winners of the costume contest included a pirate, a scarecrow, Lucy, and pasta and meatballs.
Salem Community TV was at both events to record all the fun. Click the video recaps above or below to tune into all the fun. You just may see yourself or recognize some neighbors.
