Salem Fire Department Operator Training and Welcome to Our Building Department Administrative Secretaries

On December 2, all Salem Fire Alarm Operators attended a Rapid Intervention Team for Dispatchers course. This course gave an overview of fireground operations, terminology, and structure of fire scene operation. The training focused on the dispatcher’s role in receiving, communicating, and handling firefighter maydays and emergency incidents at a fire scene.

During all incident operations, it is the Fire Alarm Operator’s job to assemble all needed apparatus and resources to respond, to monitor fire ground communications, to relay essential information, and to always be listening for crucial radio transmissions surrounding safety and fire operations. This course was an excellent learning experience for all, with some very serious subject matter.

Thank you to the Massachusetts Fire Academy and the New Hampshire Emergency Dispatchers Association.

Also, have you met our Administrative Secretaries of Inspectional Services?  We are happy to tell you about Pam Sternberg, who joined Salem Fire Department in February 2024. We also have Dianne Emanuelson, who joined us this past July 2024.  These are the smiling faces who greet you as you enter Town Hall. From all your building & fire permits required for building in Town – they are there to help you. Even if it’s not a Building or Fire question – they can advise you with many other questions about Town too! Welcome Pam & Dianne to the Salem Fire Family!
