On December 2, all Salem Fire Alarm Operators attended a Rapid Intervention Team for Dispatchers course. This course gave an overview of fireground operations, terminology, and structure of fire scene operation. The training focused on the dispatcher’s role in receiving, communicating, and handling firefighter maydays and emergency incidents at a fire scene.
During all incident operations, it is the Fire Alarm Operator’s job to assemble all needed apparatus and resources to respond, to monitor fire ground communications, to relay essential information, and to always be listening for crucial radio transmissions surrounding safety and fire operations. This course was an excellent learning experience for all, with some very serious subject matter.
Thank you to the Massachusetts Fire Academy and the New Hampshire Emergency Dispatchers Association.
