Salem’s Assessing Department is about to get busy! Why? Now is the time to apply for property tax exemptions, credits, and abatements.

The Town of Salem, NH offers personal exemptions and credits for the elderly, disabled, blind, veterans, and those with solar systems. Please see our webpage at Exemptions & Credits | Salem, NH for additional information. If you think you may qualify for one or more, applications are accepted from January through April 15th.

Salem also accepts applications for charitable, religious, or educational organizations on or before April 15th. The List of Real Estate on which Exemption is Claimed application can be found via this link: Form BTLA A-9. Charitable organizations also have to submit a completed Form BTLA A-12, Charitable Organization Financial Statement no later than June 1st.

Also, if you feel you are unfairly assessed now is the time to file an abatement. The form is available via this link Abatement-Application-to-Municipality-PDF. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2025.

If you have any questions about filing any of these applications, please call the Assessing Department at 603-890-2115 and we will be more than happy to help you through the process!
