Salem’s Master Plan Steering Committee (MPSC) held their Master Plan update kick-off meeting with Utile Design, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in the Knightly Meeting Room of Town Hall. Click here to view the meeting and Utile’s PowerPoint presentation.

As a subcommittee of the Planning Board, the Master Plan Steering Committee is tasked with reviewing and updating Salem’s Master Plan to help guide the future development of our community in a way that embraces Salem’s values and unique character.

During the meeting, members of the committee and consulting team discussed the purpose and process of reviewing and updating a comprehensive master plan. The overview of the planning process set out to define objectives such as the overall role of the Committee, an initial review of Salem’s community profile and demographics, key areas for consideration including Housing, Commercial/Residential Balance, Recreation, and Land Use, and the importance of Public Participation and Outreach as an integral part of the project.

A timeline was presented that includes four phases to the project which will span over the course of the year. This is including, but not limited to, a public survey launch, two opportunities for public presentation and community engagement, and a planned project draft report completion date of December of 2024. This draft will be subject to final approval by the Planning Board.
